The Japanese Strawberry Shortcake, on the other hand, does not contain and leavening agents. Instead, air is incorporated into the whipping eggs and just a small amount of dry ingredients are added in to yield a soft and tender sponge cake. Both are filled with whipped cream and strawberries, but the Japanese Strawberry Shortcake is usually assembled into a much prettier-looking cake. Nevertheless, both attempts are equally delicious! Strawberry shortcake is one of my favorite unexpected desserts. Traditional strawberry shortcake is super unassuming with its craggily biscuit-like shortbreads topped with loosely chopped berries and a dollop of cream.
