Formed in , the band consists of Jesse Lacey vocals, guitar , Vincent Accardi guitar, vocals , Garrett Tierney bass guitar, vocals , and Brian Lane drums, percussion ; they were joined by Benjamin Homola percussion for their live performances. They eventually split off from the other members of the group, and in formed Brand New in Merrick, New York. Their second album, Deja Entendu , was released in and marked a stylistic change for the band, one that garnered an extremely positive critical reception. Deja Entendu was eventually certified gold in the United States. In March , the band started their own record label, named Procrastinate! Music Traitors. Their fourth album, Daisy , was released in and became their highest charting album in the US at the time, reaching number six on the Billboard Brand New surprise-released their fifth album Science Fiction on August 17, , two days after announcing its release on vinyl.

Few rock bands have reinvented themselves as successfully as Brand New. Rather, it should help make sense of their progression, and the steps they took to become the band they are today…. More glum, miserable and raw than the original, it turned the song into something more in keeping with the significant shift in musical direction of that album. Its songs were still largely preoccupied with break-ups and heartache, but personal and existential insecurities were creeping into the lyrics.
